my car makes a noise when i shift?

Jannie Ariola: Hydraulic clutch ?Slave cylinder may be failing.Check for fluid loss and spots in the driveway.

Oscar Wieland: If you have a mechanical linkage found in older cars, it may need an adjustment. This is simple, look for an arm coming out of the bellhousing (forward of the tranny box on drivers side on a rear wheel drive) which is pushed by an adjustable rod. Make the rod a little longer, not too much as this will cause the throw out bearing to turn constantly and wear it out. Check tranny oil---remove a square head plug mid way back ,3/4 up on side of gear box. Fill with propper gear oil until it starts to overflow out of plug hole and replace plug. Newer cars use a hydraulic line with a slave cyl. which can leak and run low on oil.Rebuild slave kit or rebuilt slave cyl. are cheap. Most parts stores can give info on your car linkage type...Show more
