when you child turns 3 and still has a speech delay can you still send them to private preschool instead of?

Floyd Labuda: when i was younger i also had speech problems and my mom started me in a private academy. there should be a Special speech class there. in the speech class they either pull you out of class or it's after school. things they do in the speech class is have you smell things. and read off some words. it really helped me. i had problem with s and r and by the time preschool was over i had my speech problem fixed.

Aubrey Tirri: I used to run a preschool and it was never a problem when children did not talk. They played and communicated with other children very well. My own daughter was still saying only one word at 3 years old and that was "Mum" I was never concerned as I knew she would talk when ready and, she did. Of course this was 27 years ago when there was not the intense pressure on parents for their children to conform to the "norm". If your child has no medical reason why speech is delayed do try not to worry too much. ...Show more

Karl Jantze! n: In the US there isn't any public preschool. Public school starts at age 5 for kindergarten. check with the public elementary school in your district. They might not even take a 3 year old.

Robin Weelborg: Drip does not know of what he speaks...I wish he would not have. You would have to check with your school district to find out details. I beleive that they can send an itinerant teacher/therapist to the preschool to work with your child. Personally I chose to have my son go to the special needs preschool. He has a teacher, an aide, 8 special needs kids, and 4 "typical" kids in his class. He does not have to pay tuition since he has an IEP, AND the school bus picks him up in my driveway and drops him off there too. He thinks he is sooo big since he rides the school bus. Plus, the teachers are trained to deal with kids with various disabilities...the teachers in my son's class know sign language. We have been VERY happy with the way it has worked out for him....Show ! more

Edmund Rappley: It depends on the programs provided! by your school district and/or county special ed department. Our son attends a county-supported preschool where he receives speech therapy, but we were told that if he wanted to attend a "regular" preschool, the county would provide a speech therapist at the school. Good luck.

Derrick Kloke: I just saw my niece during Thanksgiving and she had lost her speech Impediment that she has had her whole life. She is 7. Make sure your child gets the help they need.EDIT My daughter works full time at a public school preK so Drip, where do you live. She lives in FL.

Venetta Coulbourne: Yes, thats fine.http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlnOM... help please
