Help with commas and quotation marks?

Peggy Sandefer: "I really like cats," Mary said.Usually if you're quoting someone and following the quote with an attribution like "Mary said," you'll replace the period from the quote with a comma, which you put inside the quotation marks.As for the comma in a list, it's optional to use a comma before the last item. This is called the serial comma, or the "Oxford comma" because Oxford University style insists on it in most cases. If you're not at Oxford, though, you can do either.
